The Fine Arts Program offers a 1= Day, 2-Day (Tuesday/Thursday), 3-Day (Monday/Wednesday/Friday), or 5-Day (Monday-Friday) option.
How to Register:
1) Starsteps Registration Fee of $45.00
2) Register online and pick which class option works best for your family.
3) Read all Starsteps FALA policies.
Art experiences at Starsteps encourage students of all ages and experience levels to experiment, explore, and deepen understanding of various art forms while making lasting connections. Classes fit a variety of schedules, experience levels, and interests.

Arrival and Departure
Children need to arrive between 8:45 and 9:00 a.m. Instruction begins at 9:00 a.m. School concludes at noon. Pick up time is between 12:00 and 12:15 p.m.
Teachers will allow children to be picked up by those persons authorized on the application and transportation forms. For the safety of your child, please send a written note to the staff if alternate transportation arrangements are made. In the event that you will be late picking up your child, please call (828) 754-9633 to notify the staff. Parents will be charged $5 for each 15 minutes or portion thereof before 8:45 a.m. or after 12:15 p.m.
Please call the office if your child will be absent from school at (828) 754-9633 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. The office will then get a note to your child’s teacher. In order to keep parents well informed, we will send weekly emails, answer questions by phone or speak personally with parents as they drop off the children. A student directory will be provided in August and updated throughout the year. Parent-teacher conferences are scheduled throughout the school year (November, March, May). To reach a member of the faculty, please call the office at (828) 754-9633 and leave a message. Your call will be returned promptly usually after school hours.
The Fine Arts Faculty wishes to ensure a positive, non-distracted learning environment for your student and his/her fellow classmates. The Faculty cannot at any time accept responsibility for unregistered children. Therefore, parents and students are asked not to bring guests, siblings or others to school, on field trips, or to parent participation days, unless otherwise noted.
At the beginning of the year, please send a clearly labeled paint shirt to the studio. These will be kept here throughout the year and returned in May. For art class, an oversized button down style shirt is best. The studio is conscientious about protecting your child’s clothing to the best of our abilities.
On the days your child is scheduled to dance, please send them to school in suitable dance clothes. Girls can wear a leotard and convertible tights. Boys can wear a tee shirt and shorts, sweats or a unitard. Dance clothing should be washed each week.
Each day please send clearly marked:
Backpack or tote bag for dancewear, artwork, notes, etc. Clothing appropriate for outside weather, including boots in winter. Although children will not routinely have an outside playtime, classes may take walks, so they need to be dressed appropriately.
The Fine Arts Learning Academy follows Caldwell County Schools inclement weather closures. In the event of a severe storm, campus closure information is broadcast on the SFALA facebook page, emailed to accounts and thru Remind 101 app. Be assured that your child will be cared for in the event of any emergency.
Snacks, Treats, Toys, Show & Tell
Students will bring their own healthy snack for days Monday - Thursday. The school will provide a healthy snack each Friday. If your child has special dietary requirements, please alert the staff of the Fine Arts Academy. Do not allow children to bring candy, gum or other treats to school.
Sharing Time (show & tell) is on Friday mornings. During Sharing Time, children have the opportunity to bring and share anything they wish. The exception to bringing items from home on another day would be if you receive a written request from the teacher.
Supplies are included in the cost of tuition, except for special programs and events. For example, students may be asked to contribute food for a social, have an opportunity to bring costumes from home, or the Academy may collect butter tubs or #10 cans for an art project. A note will be sent home if the Academy staff is asking for supplemental supplies.
All students will have a birthday celebration at some time during the school year. We will celebrate the first week of the month for all the birthdays during that month. If your student has a summer birthday we will celebrate it the first week of May. Each student will receive a gift from the Academy.
Capturing Memories Photography will take individual and class photos in the fall and the spring. All children are requested to be present for the class photos at 9:00 a.m. Purchase of these photos is optional. During parent days, parents are allowed to bring cameras and video cameras to school. SFALA would appreciate donations of duplicate photos for our archives.
Your Child’s Health
Contagious disease, colds and the flu are problems for children. Please keep your child home if he or she has had a fever within the last 24 hours, during the first few days of a common cold, or if you child has a chronic cough. If a child becomes ill at school, parents will be called immediately to come pickup their child.

Starsteps Fine Arts Learning Academy Policies
Starsteps Fine Arts Learning Academy is proud to offer a early learning program that is unique to the area. Fine arts have been integrated into the entirety of our curriculum. Our complete focus is on engaging your learner in different and unique ways, and igniting a passion for learning within them.
Hello! My name is Gretchen Haas. I am absolutely thrilled to begin this school year. As a native of Lenoir, I am so excited to have the chance to bring new learning options to the community. I am a graduate of Western Carolina University, where I received a psychology degree. The past year has given me the opportunity to continue working with students. I love working with young learners, allowing their interests to guide explorations and experiences. I believe that children should have unlimited opportunities to interact with color, sound, and movement, allowing their natural curiosity to guide their learning during their early years. Teaching and the Fine Arts are two of my biggest passions, and for those to be combined is an absolute dream come true. My ultimate goal for the children of Starsteps Fine Arts Learning Academy is for them to develop a love of learning that lasts a lifetime and experience constant opportunities to explore who they are as individuals.
